Sump Pumps

Sump Pumps are used to keep a house dry from ground water seepage. A trenched drain tile around the foundation, drains water into a sub-terrain sump. In this sump is placed the water sump pump. The sump pump will either be a submerged or pedestal (vertical) pump. Both types of sump pumps will have a float switch which will control the sump pumps automatic ON / OFF level. Submersible pumps are quieter and tend to have a longer life because their sealed, oil-cooled motors are protected from moisture and dust. For the typical 1/3 HP sump pump, the average lift ability is 25 feet and flow capacity is about 25 GPM. If you need a more powerful pump for your sump pump application, look at a 1/2 HP. Note: to large of a pump will cycle on /off to often and have a shortened life. AMT TEEL

Battery Backup Emergency Sump Pumps:

A 12 volt battery back-up sump pump provides extra protection in the event the primary sump pump fails, the main sump pump is prevented from operating, a power outage occurs due to storms or any other cause of excess water accumulation in the sump pit. Newer sump pumps combine the features of both types of sump pumps into one unit. These systems provide standard AC power operation of the sump pump and when needed the battery backup emergency sump pump functions. We carry Watchdog, Flotec, Water Commander water powered Wayne and Little Giant backup sump pumps.

Pump Biz also offers Water powered Backup Sump Pumps, called the water commander sump pump , that require no batteries at all.

The backup sump pump system is powered by a 12V deep cycle battery . A controller/charger monitors the battery condition and charges the battery when required. It also alerts you when the pump has operated. Typical system can operate in excess of 6 hrs. equivalent run time.

The control box monitors reverse connection, faulty battery and sounds warning alarm with alarm light when backup sump pump is activated, tests the battery and trickle charges the battery.

Sump Pump Sumps:

Most residential sump pump applications require a simplex pump system (single sump pump) and a 18-inch diameter tank would be adequate. For critical areas or for additional security, a duplex system (2 sump pump s)will continue to operate if one of the pumps should fail. Duplex pump system sumps are normally 24-inches in diameter.

Most local codes require a 30 gallon storage capacity in the sump, so it is necessary to determine whether the 18-inch sump is large enough. The formula for sump volume is pR2H
